More Shooting the Breeze…

Yesterday we released our latest free online bridal magazine, which features a series of interviews with some of the wonderful (and some might say ruggedly handsome) men of the Sunshine Coast wedding industry. We thought it was about time we gave some attention to the fellas, so we took them out to The Yacht Club Mooloolaba for the day, Wholehearted Studio dressed them in some funky nautical fashion from Yd. and set sail.

////

Since there were far too many awesome photos of these now part-time models to fit in the magazine, we wanted to share some more with you today. You can view the entire album of images by the very talented Cassandra Ladru Photography. Cassandra was such a peaceful, calm person to have along on our shoot full of big personalities. She seemed to just casually shoot the guys, and just look at the result!

I also knew you would want to read the full interview transcripts, so you can get to know the guys better, and maybe have a bit of a giggle!

Aaron Duncan – DJ

What are your passions? Music. Family. Sushi…..not necessarily in that order

Who inspires you? My ‘cut a rugrats’

What is true love? It’s unconditional.  It’s warts and all.  It’s not needing to impress, but wanting to anyway

What is style? I got nothin, sorry!

What’s your favourite part of a wedding? The grand entrance – I love seeing a room full of people come together in that one moment where the bride and groom enter the reception.  Done well it is electrifying!

What do you do when you have bloke time? Wait. What’s that?

If you set sail, what five things would you stow away? 1. T-Pain   2. My swim trunks   3. My flippy floppies   4. Santana champers   5. A nautical themed pashmina afghan

Where would you sail away to? Anywhere down that big blue watery road.

What would you name your hypothetical yacht? Off The Hook

And how big would it be? (Does size really matter when it comes to yachts..?)   It would be average size.  Does size really matter for yachts?  I used to think so, but I’ve been assured that it doesn’t.

Got any tips for grooms? No

Got any tips for groomsmen? Nope

Funniest thing you’ve seen happen at a bachelor party? I’ve never been to one.

Roy Byrne – Photographer

What are your passions? Photography and Travel are two of the things I’m most passionate about. Being able to tell stories through imagery helps me to not only tell my own story but the stories of the people I meet.

Who inspires you? Mostly my friends and family, their support and encouragement of what I do pushes me to keep doing the best I can.

What is true love? There are novels about what true love is, I doubt I can sum it up in a few words but I’ll give it a go! My idea of true love is an unconditional love, accepting each other knowing all your faults as individuals and as a couple. The peace of knowing that someone else in this vast universe knows your deepest, darkests secrets and still accepts you is my idea of true love.

What is style? I cant answer this, I have none.

What’s your favourite part of a wedding? I always look forward to the exchanging of the vows, especially when couples write they’re own. its kind of corny but the honesty and perfect love that goes into those promises is such a beautiful thing to witness.

What do you do when you have bloke time? Bloke time is usually spent in the surf.

If you set sail, what five things would you stow away?

1. Miss Jordan Pie (That’s the name of the lovely creature that I share my life with, an adventure on the seas wouldn’t be complete without her)

2. Super obvious but a camera

3. Guitar

4. One of our small olive trees to remind me of home when I get homesick.

5. Rum so I can pretend I’m a pirate.

Where would you sail away to? Can I say everywhere? First destination would be to the Mediterranean I think. France, Italy, Greece, Croatia it’s all good!

What would you name your hypothetical yacht? TheWanderer

And how big would it be? (Does size really matter when it comes to yachts..?) Size doesn’t matter as long is it can handle two people and a whole lot of adventure.

Got any tips for grooms? Your about to marry the woman of your dreams, I don’t think you need any tips! Just relax, be yourself and enjoy the day with your friends and family.

Got any tips for groomsmen? I’m pretty sure groomsmen have it the easiest out of the bridal party, just don’t pass out at the alter(this has actually happened)

Funniest thing you’ve seen happen at a bachelor party?(Within reason, guys!!) What happens at a bachelor party stays at a bachelor party.

Alan Hughes – Photographer

What are your passions? Of course – I know it’s a cliche, but my work is my passion. I’m lucky enough to have a job that I love – being a part of someone’s special day every week has got to be the best job in the world! Away from photography my passions are movies and music – I pretty much have music on all the time whilst editing wedding images – different genres for each different part of the wedding too!

Who inspires you? I get inspired everyday – I see inspiration in so many ways: mother nature, my children, my wife, other photographers who have been at the top for donkey’s years and still produce the goods (like Marcus Bell) and old masters and pioneers of photography like Bresson, Salgado and Erwhitt.

What is true love? This has taken me the longest to answer as it’s difficult to put in words – I would say you can only realise it’s ‘true’ love for sure after several years. When you have been through the good and bad times and are still together, looking out for each other and accepting each other’s imperfections and flaws without hoping they’d change.

What is style? I think that style is something that finds you. If you just be true to yourself in the way you dress, decorate and of course in photography, do what feels right and what ultimately comes natural to you – your style will be uniquely yours.

What’s your favourite part of a wedding? If I had to pick one particular part – it would be the few minutes before the ceremony – the father giving away his daughter and then the first look the couple have of each other as the bride approaches for the ceremony – so much emotion and energy that’s been building up towards that special moment 🙂

When and where did you get married? We got married back in 1999 (in the black and white days according to my kids) at the Chelsea Football Club stadium in London. It was an amazing day and we waltzed (not literally) up the aisle to Nat King Cole’s Let’s face the Music and Dance!

What do you do when you have bloke time? Between the wedding photography business and spending time with my family – there’s not too much ‘bloke’ time and that’s how I like it. During the week when I need a break from editing images I like to go for jogs along the beach near my house or play the guitar and occasionally (about 3 times a year) I’ll go out and  pretend to play golf.

If you set sail, what five things would you stow away? I’m really trying to not to repeat myself here by not saying my camera – a very large movie DVD collection, my ipod/iphone, a karaoke machine (as no-one would be able to hear me in the middle off the ocean!), scuba gear and a large supply of chilli flakes!

Where would you sail away to? The Whitsunday Islands – paradise

What would you name your hypothetical yacht? Hypothetical Indeed!

And how big would it be? (Does size really matter when it comes to yachts..?) Big enough to be not the smallest in the harbour

Got any tips for grooms? Arrange some surprises for the wedding day – ie. sending her a letter for her to open while she’s getting ready before the ceremony and maybe a special gift – she’ll always remember it. Drink plenty of water in the morning to stay hydrated and if you have to drink alcohol – pace yourself, as it’s a long day!

Got any tips for groomsmen? As above with the groom – drink plenty of water during the day and pace yourself. Don’t go wild the night before the wedding…

Funniest thing you’ve seen happen at a bachelor party? What goes on on tour – stays on tour!

Matt Rowe – Photographer

What are your passions? Music, Photography

Who inspires you? Nature

What is true love? It’s a knowing, a passion and a course with predominantly smooth sailing but the muster and endurance for the tumultuous times too.

What is style? Ever-changing fashions, but what pulls it off is confidence (and a little bit of unique daring).

What’s your favourite part of a wedding? As a photographer – it’s taking the location photos. As a guests it’s a toss up between the vows and the speeches.

When and where did you get married? Spring time under a huge fig tree overlooking the Glass house mountains

What do you do when you have bloke time? Play guitar and jam with friends – a bonfire is the ideal location for this.

If you set sail, what five things would you stow away? My wife, my daughters and cats – and a guitar and camera

Where would you sail away to? Patagonia via the pacific Islands

What would you name your hypothetical yacht? Milana (after my two daughters)

And how big would it be? (Does size really matter when it comes to yachts..?) Big enough to do what it needs to do with pride!

Got any tips for grooms? It’s your day – go with it; it’s all about you and your bride. Enjoy.

Got any tips for groomsmen? If you can heckle the groom and each-other, that can be really helpful. (Just not during the ceremony)

Funniest thing you’ve seen happen at a bachelor party? You’re not supposed to remember all of that!

Jayden Toohey – Videographer

What are your passions? My wife, daughter, my business & filming and surfing.

Who inspires you?  Wow I actually had to really think about this one, lists of cinematographers popped in my head but really it’s Tara my wife. She watches pretty much every video highlight before the bride & groom see it and tears it to shreds.  Once I wipe my eyes and finalise my edit it’s always such a better video because of her. Every great videographer should have a Tara.

What is true love? I once heard (and probably agree with) True love is a long game if you look back on your death bed and can say I really loved that person then that is true love, going through life together.

What is style? Style is great! specially in the video world, we could all shoot the same wedding and come out with such a different end product and that is the beauty of each individuals style, they are so different.

What’s your favourite part of a wedding? I know it is really cliché but “That moment where the groom is waiting nervously for his bride and those moments while he watches her walking towards him. For me that was an unforgettable experience at my wedding and so hard to hold the tears back.

When and where did you get married? 2006 Kawana Beach

What do you do when you have bloke time? Surf or go to double island, both are great thinking time while still having a blast.

If you set sail, what five things would you stow away?  Can you stow away your family? What’s the fun setting sail with out them – The other 3 items they can decide as I’ll have everything I need.

Where would you sail away to? Probably Tahiti. I get seasick and the waters there are fairly protected (once you get there) and it looks amazing.

What would you name your hypothetical yacht? I have an actual yacht, is it bad that I haven’t yet named it?

And how big would it be? (Does size really matter when it comes to yachts..?) Depends on how you use it! But in all seriousness the smaller yachts are so much fun for day sails and the bigger ones are great for several days on the water.

Got any tips for grooms?  Think about your bride to be, love on her, give her a gift, write her a little note, open her door, tell her she has never looked more stunning, hold her hand, treat her like a princess, chances are this is what she always wanted so why not give it to her

Got any tips for groomsmen?  If you’re doing a speech remember it’s not a 21st speech, be honouring towards the couple comment on their strengths believe me these speeches always go down well and are so much more memorable.

Funniest thing you’ve seen happen at a bachelor party?  TBA – I have one coming up soon so I’ll keep you posted…

What’s your favourite part of a wedding? Speeches. Love the stories and the love expressed.

When and where did you get married? Eloped at Coolum Boardwalk in November.

If you set sail, what five things would you stow away? MacBook Pro, Pocket Wi-Fi, iPhone, clean underwear and coffee.

What would you name your hypothetical yacht? Ima. Ima Yacht.

And how big would it be? (Does size really matter when it comes to yachts..?) Big enough for 10 people.

Got any tips for grooms? Go easy on the drinks and make sleep a priority the night before.

Got any tips for groomsmen? Be a mate not a maggot.

Got any tips for grooms? If you usually have a beard don’t shave it off for the sake of your wedding day. Stand strong brother.

Got any tips for groomsmen? Try not to get too drunk guys. At least until after the speeches. Oh do I have some incriminating footage on my hard drives.

Funniest thing you’ve seen happen at a bachelor party?  I want to say it happened to a friend of mine but alas I cannot. My ‘Friends’ Wrapped me, shoulders to ankles, in glad wrap and buried me in a hole at the beach up to my neck and left me there to dig myself out. Did i mention i was also made to wear a pink mini skirt and crop top.
