Why the Fourth Finger is Traditionally the Ring Finger

19th November 2013

Your Celebrant Shona works with many couples from different cultures. One of her beautiful Chinese couples gave this beautiful explanation of why the fourth finger is traditionally the wedding ring finger. We have never heard this explanation before, and we were positively blown away by this practical demonstration! Firstly, hold your open palms face-to-face, and bend your middle fingers down  and hold together back-to-back. Next, open and hold the remaining fingers and thumb tip to tip as shown.  Now, try to separate the thumbs – these represent The Parents and you will notice they separate easily, because your parents are…

The Blogcademy Recap: My Branding Nerdery

18th November 2013

I was first attracted to The Blogcademy for its branding. Not simply because it is witty and attractive with a clever nod to snooty English private schools that intices me so. Having long been a fan of Shauna Haider's blog, Nubby Twiglet, since my own beloved designer shared it with me, I was extra fascinated by the use of the branding across the entire event from start to finish. //// I think I first came across The Blogcademy on Twitter via a tweet from Shauna, and that one little tweet lead me to a world of branding heaven. At this…

It’s time to get your facial on, brides

14th November 2013

In the leadup to your big day, you want to look and feel fresh as a daisy. Smooth as a baby’s bottom. You know, glowing like a glowstick on a hot summer night at Carols by Candlelight. Well, except for the fluorescent part. And the stick part. And the highly poisonous part. Okay, so not at all like a glowstick, but glowing nonetheless.  //// Let’s face it, we all just want to look our most stunningly beautiful the day we are The Bride, so it’s time. Right now, it’s time to get your facial on. No matter whether you have…

Cute Bridal Shower DIY – Floral Party Hats!

13th November 2013

These are the cutest thing since sliced white bread made in a Disney’s Thumper-shaped tin, then wrapped in pink edible foil, and painted with a sweet twinkle in his little bunny eye. That’s a thing, right? No? Should be, just sayin’.  //// So, as I was saying, these cutie patootie party hats are super simple to make, and would be perfect for amping up the festivities at your Bridal Shower or Hen’s Night! Forget the penis straws and tacky fuschia veils, get your crepe paper on! You and your bridesmaids could knock a few up for all of your guests,…

Real Wedding: Kirby and Daniel in Maleny

12th November 2013

What about this fabulous dress! Toowoomba couple, Kirby and Daniel, planned their destination wedding in Maleny with the help of Kirby’s mum, who she says has great taste and an eye for detail. Mum even threw in some super fun surprises for the happy couple, like a ferris wheel – an actual ferris wheel! It was particularly fitting for their wedding, because Daniel proposed to his bride on the Ferris Wheel at Luna Park in Sydney. In fact, the Ferris Wheel became the theme of the wedding.  //// I think Kirby’s mum knows her very well indeed, because the bride’s…

Today we have a guest blog from one lovely lady, who happens to be a fabulous Sunshine Coast wedding celebrant, Margarita Priori-Smith sheds some light on various wedding customs we have come to know and adapt in our culture in Australia, and around the world. Marriage customs can be viewed from different perspectives.  They can either be traditional rituals such as giving the bride away, or they can be rites and customs from around the world. Like any custom and ritual, they evolve over time and can be adapted to suit individual situations. Here is a glimpse at 3 marriage customs that most couples…

Lest we forget

It is 11:00am. It is Rememberance Day here in Australia. So we are taking a moment to remember our fallen heroes and those who live with the mental and physical scars remaining with them today from their time fighting for our country.  The symbol of our ANZACS is the red poppy. While I couldn’t find any red poppies in bridal bouquets, I thought I would still share these symbolic flowers with you in these bouquets. No matter which day of the year you are marrying, why not consider including a poppy or two in your bouquet as a symbol of…
