It’s the 20’s Again! – 2020 Cake Trends

Here to share her trend prediction in the world of wedding cakes is the always sweet Ellana from SweetP Cakes and Cookies.

The roaring 20’s – here again!  As with the start of every year, I reflect on past cake trends and wonder what the new year ahead will bring. Here is a little look into my crystal ball to see how I think cakes will look in 2020.

Organic + Natural

I predict we will see strength in organic and natural-looking cakes as the push in society for a sense of mindfulness and sustainability is at the forefront of couples’ minds. But that doesn’t have to mean boring. Think Kon Mari – the perfect blend of not-too-much and not-too-little.

Statement Florals

I think we will see simply-finished cakes almost being cheated of their minimalism with statement florals being strongly paired with clean-lined or softly-textured cakes.  This is where couples’ personality can come through. Dried floral arrangements creeping up the side of cakes as if it is growing out from the cake board, or fresh florals, reflexed rose petals with white space enhancing their colour and movement siting proudly at the top, or a combination of wispy, bleached, fluffy dried elements, perfectly balanced with fresh florals.33303230_1848568501830857_5372162024597880832_o

Colours of the Year

Panatone 2020 spring/summer palette features both brights and natural tones and I think we will absolutely see both in the wedding cake world.  Statement colours will come through florals or couples steering away from traditional white and incorporating a neutral tone as their base colour on their cakes.

As with every year, my advice to couples when considering trends is to take one or two elements and use them in subtle ways which is personal to you both.
