A Scottish wedding in Australia, and make it rainy to boot!
Even a seasoned Wedding Planner can’t control the weather on her wedding day. As bride, Brittney, discovered when she and now husband, Dan, held their Scottish wedding here in Australia.
As the Wedding Coordinator at Noosa Boathouse, Brittney has certainly seen it all and didn’t let a little bit of rain put a dampener on her wedding day. After all, she had secured the best wedding venue she could imagine in her and Dan’s home town of Noosa. No prizes for guessing where!
You could say it was more than just the kilts and brogues worn by the Scottish groom and his groomsmen that brought a little touch of Scotland to the occasion! The weather was reminiscent of the groom’s family heritage, just like the tartan he wore.
One thing every Wedding Planner will tell you – especially those who work in weddings in Queensland – you must have a wet weather backup plan. Brittney and Dan’s Plan B was put into motion and the team from Splash Events wasted no time in decorating the indoor space at Sofitel Noosa Pacific Resort for Brittney and Dan’s wedding ceremony.
The weather didn’t stop the just married couple from getting some stunning bridal party shots on Noosa’s Main Beach – that’s what cute umbrellas are for after all! And the rain stopped in time for them and their guests to enjoy a sunset cruise on the Noosa River before docking at their reception venue, Noosa Boathouse.
Brittney shares all about her Scottish wedding in Australia below.

Why we chose Noosa for our Wedding Day
Noosa is and always will be home for us. We love it here so much. There was no other place we wanted to get married. As the Functions Manager at Noosa Boathouse, I was debating whether I wanted to have my reception at my work, but after searching for other venues, we couldn’t find anywhere that even compared. So, we went for it, and don’t regret a thing! It’s one of the most stunning venues and our friends and family were just blown away.
Our Biggest Wedding Planning Challenges
Underestimating the number of small tasks that pop up a few weeks out from your wedding day! Also, all the song choices! Those were hard. I think we changed our wedding entrance song at least five times.
Our Wedding Song Selections
Aisle walk song – Can’t Help Falling in Love – Kina Grannis
Reception Entrance – (This will be) An Everlasting Love – Natalie Cole
First Dance – Never Tear us Apart – The Teskey Brothers

Wedding Secrets
Biggest splurge: Photography and videography.
Best money-saving decision: Keeping the guest numbers down. There were times where we could have easily invited an extra 30 people but we fought the temptation and kept it quite intimate. No regrets it at all!

Bride’s shoes: Hush Puppies
Groom and groomsmens’ kilts and brogues: St. Kilda Kilt Hire

Brittney’s Advice for Other Brides
Coming from the wedding planner in me as well as having gone through the process for my own wedding – don’t sweat the little stuff! There are so many moving parts that piece together your big day and sometimes they don’t all go exactly to plan (i.e rain!) but honestly, the only thing that actually matters, is that you are marrying the love of your life. Put your trust in your suppliers, relax, and have fun! The day goes by so quickly, just embrace it and it will be one of the most incredible days of your life.
Proposal Story
We went to the Greek Islands for a holiday. It was a bucket list place for the both of us and turned out to be the PERFECT place for Dan to propose! On the cliffside of Santorini with a bottle of bubbles and just the two of us, as you can probably imagine, it was INCREDIBLE! Our best holiday yet! Dan was so nervous, he could barely get the words out. I had no idea what was going on until he got down on one knee.
Our Love Story
We met back in 2016 in Noosa where Dan was the manager of a local bar that my friends and I used to go to. After a few months of chasing, Dan mustered up some courage to invite me to go with him to a friends birthday party as his ‘date’, but unfortunately, I already had plans to attend another birthday celebration on the same day – so gave him a rain check.
Turns out we were going to the same party! The birthday boy was a mutual friend of ours (who became a groomsman at our wedding) and honestly, it all just fell together so naturally from there. We never wanted to be apart.
