There were hardly any locals at Katy and Ian’s wedding, which gave a nod to Ian’s Scottish heritage. Their 90 guests flocked from Scotland and various parts of Australia, descending upon Sunshine Beach for a beachside wedding at Sunshine Beach Surf Club that would wow the out-of-towners. The men were clad in some seriously sexy kilts, and the couple’s first dance was accompanied by a Scotish accordion to add a little cultural flair to the occasion.
Lee from Life & Love Photography was there to capture all the special moments of the day.
The Proposal…
“We were on a holiday in Vietnam at the end of June last year. It was towards the end of the holiday when Ian got up one morning telling me he was going to yoga (we had done it once before on the holiday) I decided to stay in bed because I had a sore knee. Instead of going to yoga, Ian went to the beach and wrote in the sand (using an oar from one of the decorative boats they had in the resort) “Katy, will you marry me?”
We were on our way to breakfast when Ian said the water was looking really good, we should go and have a look. I was pretty hungry and just wanted breakfast, but decided we would go for a quick look. Looking out at the water, it did look really nice, but Ian had to prompt me to look at the sand. He then got down on one knee and proposed. Obviously, I said yes!”
“Ian bought his groomsmen personalised engraved decanters. I bought the girls earrings to wear for our wedding.”
“The most important factor was that we absolutely love every part of the day. We also wanted to make it as much fun for our guests as possible!”
“The best part was having all of our family and friends travel from all over Australia and from Scotland to celebrate with us. There were barely any locals at our wedding!”
Ian says about his bride…
“I love that Katy is perfect for me in every way. She makes me smile in a way that no-one else does and I love sharing my life with her. I think that our mutual FOMO (‘fear of missing out’) is the basis that drives us to make the most of our lives together and to share time doing things that we love with people that mean the world to us.”
Katy says about her husband…
“Ditto! I love that we have always felt so comfortable together, right from the start. Also, that we make the most simple tasks like cleaning and cooking enjoyable because we do them together.”
“We met through my previous job as event manager for the pipeline industry association. I was organising all the industry networking events and Ian was attending them all. We dated long distance for quite a while before we made the decision for me to move to the Sunshine Coast.” “One of the most special moments of our day was having some time after photos were finished before we had to go to the reception to go back to our apartment with our bridal party and have some down time. It was great to just spend some time together without all the other guests.”
